Rowell Bridge

Built in 1853 by Horace Childs , the Rowell Covered Bridge spans the Contoocook River in Hopkinton. The 115-foot bridge is the only surviving New Hampshire bridge built by Childs and features a unique truss design combining elements of the Paddleford truss with a large central timber arch. It is named for the Rowell Family who lived nearby.

After developing significant structural deficiencies, the bridge was closed to traffic in 1993. A $365,000 rehabilitation began in 1995 under the New Hampshire Department of Transportation. The Rowell Covered Bridge reopened on August 1, 1996. In 2021, Daniels Construction replaced worn decking with locally harvested white oak.
