Built in 1832 for $3,300, the Bath Covered Bridge spans the Ammonoosuc River in Bath. At 375 feet and four spans, it is the longest covered bridge entirely within New Hampshire.
Local carpenter George Wetherell oversaw its construction, with masonry by Luther Butler and hand-wrought nails made by Amasa Buck. In 1984, the Bath Village Covered Bridge Committee formed to preserve the bridge, leading to a major restoration by Milton Graton that was completed in 1987. A comprehensive rehabilitation from 2012 to 2014 addressed structural and safety concerns while preserving the bridge’s historic character.
