Columbia Bridge

Built in 1912 by Charles Babbitt for $4,000, the Columbia Covered Bridge spans the Connecticut River between Columbia, New Hampshire, and Lemington, Vermont. The 146-foot, single-span Howe truss replaced an earlier bridge destroyed by fire in 1911. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1976, the bridge underwent major rehabilitation in 1981 and again in 2009, when NHDOT crews replaced deteriorated truss members, tension rods, roof rafters, and other structural components. Maintained jointly by Columbia and Lemington, the bridge continues to serve both communities.
