The Dalton Covered Bridge was built in 1853 by Joshua Sanborn, George Sawyer, and Webster B. Davis for $980.12. The 77-foot, single-span bridge crosses the Warner River and features a unique truss design. It is maintained by the Town of Warner.
The Dalton Covered Bridge is the only covered bridge in New Hampshire named after a woman. Early town records refer to its location as being near “The Widow Dalton’s place.” That widow was Judith Sawyer Hoyt Dalton (1772–1865), who was widowed twice. In 1840, Judith purchased two-and-a-half acres at the junction of Main Street and Joppa Road.
