Happy Corner Bridge

The Happy Corner Bridge is the northernmost covered bridge in New Hampshire, but very little is known about its construction or builder. The bridge stands at a crossroads that was once a busy neighborhood with a post office, barbershop, sawmill, and school.

Locals say the name Happy Corner came from a logging community and a nearby “dry” community, where residents could gather for alcohol and “companionship.” Another tradition attributes the name to an elderly resident who entertained neighbors with his Victrola and invited them to sing and dance. Closed to vehicular traffic by 1988, the bridge received $27,301.67 in repairs in 1991, including four steel I-beams installed beneath the structure.
