Edgell Bridge

Built in 1885 by John Clark Piper and his son Walter Granger Piper, the Edgell Covered Bridge spans Clay Brook in Lyme. The 150-foot Town lattice truss was prefabricated at the Piper mill and hauled to the site by oxen. Named for Civil War officer Major Frederick M. Edgell, the bridge has survived floods, a collapsed roof, and numerous repairs. A $690,000 rehabilitation in 2024 ensures the Edgell Bridge remains standing for generations to come.
