Cilleyville-Bog Bridge

The Cilleyville-Bog Covered Bridge was built in 1887 by Prentice C. Atwood for $522.63. Also known as the Bog Bridge and Old Cilleyville Bridge, the 53-foot, single-span Town lattice truss crosses Pleasant Brook in Andover.

When completed, the bridge had a distinctive tilt. Local legend claims that two of Atwood’s assistants intentionally shortened some of the timbers as a way of getting back at the builder. The story has never been confirmed, and one of the men involved, Charles F. Sleeper, is sometimes incorrectly identified as Wilson.
