Bump Bridge

The original Bump Covered Bridge was reportedly built in 1877 by William H. H. Fellows and brothers John Sherman and James Edward Bump. The Queenpost truss bridge was replaced in 1972 by Arnold M. Graton. The new bridge was two feet wider than its predecessor and was pulled into place by Boy Scouts from Holderness and Campton, along with local volunteers and oxen.

The Bump Bridge was closed in 2008 for extensive repairs by 3G Construction, including reconstruction of the stone abutments, replacement of timber piers and deteriorated framing, a new roof, and fire-retardant treatment. The Bump Bridge is the only covered bridge in New Hampshire with approach deck spans, which allow floodwaters to pass beneath the bridge more easily.
