Stoney Morrell Bridge

Built in 1999 by master bridgewright Arnold M. Graton for the Smithsonian Folklife Festival in Washington, D.C., the Stoney Morrell Covered Bridge is a 36-foot Town lattice truss. Constructed at Graton’s shop in Holderness with donated New Hampshire timber, the bridge traveled by flatbed more than 1,200 miles between New Hampshire and Washington, yet no vehicle has ever crossed its deck.
After the festival, it was displayed at Heritage New Hampshire in Glen before being acquired by the Gary Millen Foundation in 2015. The bridge was transported to Kennett High School in Conway and pulled into place by oxen on September 17, 2015. It was dedicated as the Stoney Morrell Bridge on June 14, 2017.
