Tannery Hill Bridge

Built in 1995 by local bridgewright Tim Andrews of Barns and Bridges of New England, the Tannery Hill Covered Bridge spans Gunstock Brook in Gilford. The Town lattice pedestrian bridge was designed to support 27,000 pounds and constructed entirely by volunteers, using 10,000 board feet of native spruce. The Gilford Rotary Club raised $12,000 for materials through donations, commemorative merchandise, and a “trunnel adoption” campaign that funded nearly all of the bridge’s 374 hand-turned wooden pegs. The completed bridge was rolled into place by two oxen during Gilford’s 1995 Old Home Day celebration and dedicated that October. The Tannery Hill Bridge is the only covered bridge in Belknap County and the first covered bridge built in Gilford.
