Mount Orne Bridge

Built in 1911 by the Berlin Iron Bridge Company, the Mount Orne Covered Bridge spans the Connecticut River between Lancaster, New Hampshire, and Lunenburg, Vermont. Construction was supervised by brothers Edward Nathan Babbitt and Charles Freeman Babbitt, experienced bridge builders who had worked throughout New England.

The 250-foot covered Howe truss replaced an earlier toll bridge at the site that was destroyed by flooding or a log jam. A major rehabilitation in 1983 addressed extensive rot and termite damage and included rebuilding the center pier. Today, the Mount Orne is one of only four surviving Howe truss covered bridges in New Hampshire and continues to connect the two communities.
